The focus of this trip is the immersive Cultural exchange, Conservation and community empowerment in Kasigau (Southern Tsavo West), featuring Mount Kasigau endemic biodiversity and World War 1 history.

THE SAFARI ITINERARY

Day 1: Arrival in Mombasa or Nairobi

On arrival in either Nairobi or Mombasa, you will be welcomed by our representative who will offer all the necessary requirements in terms of logistics, accommodation and brief you on the itinerary.

Day 2: Train travel to Voi

Modern and Efficient :

The Standard Gauge Railway in Kenya (SGR), a major infrastructure project, connects Mombasa to Nairobi and vice versa offering a faster and more comfortable alternative to traditional travel methods.

Smooth Ride:

The journey is remarkably smooth, with the train gliding along the newly built tracks, offering a comfortable and enjoyable experience.

Scenic Views:

The landscape unfolds before you, revealing diverse Kenyan scenery, from the coast to the rolling hills and, if you’re lucky, even wildlife sightings.

Part of our journey to Voi it will pass through Nairobi National Park, if journey starts from Nairobi, And from Both Nairobi or Mombasa it will pass through Tsavo East National Park. And if lucky one is able to sport some wild animals like Elephants, Giraffes, Buffalo, Gazelles, Zebras etc.

On arrival in Voi our Local guide will meet you for a cultural briefing as you drive 60kms from Voi Town to our Kasigau village.

You will experience the good hospitality of the local community and at night enjoy unique story telling on the First World War 1 Between British and Germans and how it affected the community.

Day 3: Choose your impact

This community engages in different projects that aim to improve their livelihood and empower them economically.

Clients enjoy these engagements as they drive and make stops to meet the local community or enjoy the beautiful scenery. If planting/ harvesting season guests participate in the drought resistance crops like sunflower which local communities press for cooking oil, cotton wool which they sale to a local factory or cereals for their consumption

Due to prolonged dry season, guests can join the Kasigau Alumni Network and contribute to purchase and install water tanks used to harvest rainwater.

Lunch is served at a woman run village restaurant where ingredients are sourced locally. Guests also enjoy a village set up of shopping malls with local supermarkets, butcheries, bars etc.

After lunch we head back to freshen up and enjoy a sundowner at 1700hrs hosted by our local tour guides.

Day 4: Eco Learning & Craft Mastering

Morning hours

Guided by a local ethnobotanist to identify different medicinal plants that the locals use for medicine and dyes for their weaving, and edible fruits.

Afternoon hours – Crafts Skills, weaving apprenticeship

The Kasigau community has 15 women groups who specialize in weaving beautiful African Traditional Baskets for economic gain.

Day 5 Mount Kasigau Hike & Biodiversity Quest

Clients will enjoy a Guided breath-taking hike.

Mount Kasigau has an elevation of 1640M above sea level. This hike can be conquered in about 6 to 8 hours depending on the hiker’s fitness level.

While at the peak one will enjoy the view of the surrounding areas including Mount Kilimanjaro at a distance and the Horizon of Tsavo West National Park.

As the paths slop up you will pass through scrambling hills with large rocks scattered all over.

Vegetation changes with the rising altitude. The vegetation is of dry woodland with several trees scattered at the base of the mountain and get scarcer up at 1300M, the trees start getting taller with abundance of ferns moss and thick trees towards the peak. The trees get smaller and quickly change to conifers at the peak of the mountain.

Flora and Fauna

The Mountain is home to a variety of Flora and Fauna species. Some of which are endemic to Taita Hills.  Track endemic Species include Birds such as the Taita Thrush, Taita Appalls and the Taita White Eye.

Trees such as Memecylon greenways are endemic to Mount Kasigau.

Peak experience plant an endemic tree as part of reforestation efforts.

Day 6 Choose your Legacy

 AFTERNOON

Community Development/ Empowerment

Clients work closely with the local communities by empowering them through education, health care and sustainable livelihood programs by fostering a sense of stewardship. We believe in creating a shared responsibility for the wellbeing of both people and wildlife.

Clients can visit the Abe club which was established in 2004 in Kasigau so at to empower the entire 05 villages.

Fund a student’s scholarship ($10) or empower a woman tailor in the institute and gift a child a pair of school uniform

Depart for Rusinga Conservancy

Enroute visit Wildlife Works workshop. Learn more about the community conservation and environmental education.

Visit their eco-garment production factory, soap factory, the green house and their local boutique shop where you can get the finished products.

Wildlife works works together with Rusinga conservancy in the following models

REDD (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation & forest Degradation) Projects, combining conservation with community development.

They manage the conservancy through Carbon Credits.

They engage in sustainable agriculture, eco-charcoal production and handicraft as alternative livelihoods to reduce pressure on the environment.

Carbon Credits used to build schools, health cares, water projects and empower women groups.

Day 7: RUSINGA CONSERVANCY

Visit Neema Women Group where you will learn and participate in the art of making paper beads using paper from magazine and Recycled elephant dung paper.

Enjoy a simple traditional lunch with the women.

Afternoon head to the conservancy and enjoy afternoon game. The conservancy has a variety of wild animals including Lions, Cheetahs, Leopards, elephants, giraffes, zebras, buffalos and some endangered animals like African Wild dogs and Hirola antelopes that are rare but conservancy aids protection efforts.

Evening enjoy a great sundowner at the Lokidor hills or in Taita wildlife sanctuary

Day 8: Mombasa

After Breakfast checkout from your accomodation

Pass through Hadithi Craft Kenya Workshop which is part of the conservancy, and it supports over 1,800 women artisans by increasing access to market their handmade crafts, it assist them access raw materials, facilitates trainings in crafts skills and ethical productions.

Enjoy a simple traditional lunch with the women.

Day 9: Local market Immersion

Depart for our local market. Enjoy the hustle and bustle of our busy market. Visit the various sections for either dry foods, vegetables or fruits and later cook lunch with our local chef using ingredients bought at the market

Back in hotel late afternoon, relax and enjoy the serene hotel environment.

Day 10: Departure and Lifelong impact

Join our Alumni Hub to fund a community  project, or Abe- club to sponsor a student or women tailors

Impact reporting will be sent post- trip showing trees planted, funds distributed or Coral Reef adopted.
