Clothes for safari should be light, comfortable and not too brightly colored. There is little or no requirement for anything formal. A light jacket or sweater may be needed in the evenings at higher altitudes, comfortable walking shoes are an essential, as is a hat to keep off the sun, and sunglasses. Don’t forget a swimming costume for use at the lodge pools.

Remember that safari vehicles and light aircraft have tight limits on the size and weight of luggage carried. Depending on your itinerary it may be possible to leave some luggage in your hotel in Nairobi and Mombasa for the duration of your safari.

It is generally recommended to drink only bottled mineral water which is readily available everywhere.

There are no restrictions on the sale or consumption of alcoholic drinks in Kenya. A good selection of local beers and soft drinks are available everywhere, and you will find a range of imported wines, beers and spirits in many places, although these can be expensive. The quality and value of food in Kenya is generally very good. However, do eat sensibly particularly in the first few days of your visit.

You’ll need full-cover medical travel insurance, and, if you’re planning to dive, trek, or climb, make sure your insurance covers active pursuits. Check with your health care provider to see what vaccinations might be necessary for your destination(s). Always use sunscreen and bug repellent.

Fidex Tours & Safaris require that all clients arrange personal travel insurance to cover their medical, property and other personal risks for the duration of their safari. Advice on policies or actual cover can be arranged if required. Temporary membership of the Flying Doctor Service, based in Nairobi and providing cover in Kenya and Northern Tanzania can also be arranged at a modest cost.

Kenya has many different dialects but English is the official language while Kiswahili is the national language

The official currency is the Kenya Shilling (KSH). Available Notes are 50, 100, 200, 500, and 1,000 shillings. Available coins are 1, 5, 10, 20, and 40 shillings.

Major currencies like USD, Euro, and British pounds are also accepted in many outlets.

Your passport must be valid up to six months after the date of arrival Kenya.

Single-entry visas (US$50), valid for three months, are available at Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and Mombasa International Airport and our international borders (you can use US$, euros, or UK pounds sterling), and can be used to move freely between Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.

Kenya is on EAT (East Africa Time), which is three hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time and eight hours ahead of North America’s Eastern Standard Time.

Tipping is not mandatory in Kenya; but if you get good service, some tip is worth.

Your best option is to consult the Kenya tourist destination websites  before you leave home. Kenya Tourism Federation, which represents the private sector of the tourism industry has a good tourist help line ( numbers button skype logo020/604-767 ), and the Web site for Kenya Wildlife Services (www.kws.org), Kenya Association of tour operators.(KATO) https://www.katokenya.org  is a good source if you’re going to a national park.

Kenya Regulations are one bottle of spirit, 200 cigarettes, reasonable camera equipment are allowed duty free.

In Kenya its illegal to sell any product  made from wild animals including hides, skins, horns or tusks

Visitors should exercise the same common sense as one would in any other part of the world. Please do not leave cash, jewellery or valuables unattended, hotels and lodges have safe deposit facilities, make use of them. Do not wear flashy jewellery or leave handbags and photographic equipment in public places
